The main purpose of any scientific report is to communicate research findings. It is the formal writing up of an experiment or an investigation into a particular topic.Scientific reports include :
- Laboratory reports, i.e. writing up an experiment
- Research reports, i.e. investigating a topic
- Field trip write-ups
While these types of reports are different in terms of their size and scope, they share some of the following features:- They convey key information quickly and accurately.
- They describe a process which can be reproduced by others.
- They are written in a concise style, giving precise detail.
- They are illustrated with tables, graphs, photographs or drawings.
