How reliable is your knowledge of Māori related information sources? Have a go at the following questions before you embark on your search to find out more.

Macrons are just a pronunciation guide.  

Putting Māori words into a subject search in a library catalogue is a waste of time.  

Putting Māori words into Google or another search engine will not be helpful unless you choose NZ pages.  

Only people with Māori ancestry can use any of the three toi iho trademarks.  

Only people with Māori ancestry can take kai moana using a permit granted by tangata tiaki.  

Flax was introduced to New Zealand by early traders, so does not have cultural significance to Māori.  

Contacting local Māori people (tangata whenua) is very important when seeking Maori information.  

Ngāi Tahu want to share knowledge of their language, traditions and history.  

Only Māori artifacts which appear to be more than 100 years old need to be taken to the nearest public museum.
